Injured Horse Is Healing and Retired!

Before an injured horse arrived at the PETA-supported veterinary clinic in Petra, Jordan, locals had attempted to cure her wounded leg by burning the joint—an ineffective and painful treatment that left her unable to bear weight on the limb.

The clinic’s veterinary team immediately began treating her with rounds of antibiotics and other medications that are helping—the swelling around her joint is now half its original size, her burn wound is healing, and her muscles have grown stronger. She’s even starting to bear weight on her injured leg. Her treatment will continue, and she’ll remain at the clinic until she has fully recovered.

The head veterinarian at the clinic has also ensured that the horse’s owner will retire her from work—meaning all of her joints can rest and she’ll never be forced to haul heavy loads again!
